Tours by Marguerite was founded on the principle of providing quality, fact-based tours of New Orleans' historic places. The company was named for Margaret "Marguerite" Williams, grandmother of company founder Lawson Ota. Margaret Williams was a gifted story-teller and as such maintained, as many of her generation did, the rich oral tradition of West Africa continued by slaves and their descendants in the New World.
We seek to honor that tradition as we shed light on aspects of Louisiana's Creole culture that have often been over looked. We are proud to celebrate the launch of our company with a French Quarter tour that focuses on Louisiana's Free People of Color. This tour, like others that will be offered soon, will be offered in English and in French.
